Once again the Knox Hockey Club is running its Summer of Fun competition at the Knox Ground.
For those who have not played in the Summer Competition before, the emphasis is on the “F” word:
“FUN”
The Competition will run for ten weeks. We will run 6 nights before Christmas, and 4 in February.
Pre-Christmas rounds Monday 12th November – Monday 17th December
Post-New Year rounds Monday 4th February – Monday 25th February
Monday Nights : Running times 7pm to 9.30pm
The competition will consist of 12 teams of 10 players of mixed abilities. Each team will play 2 games per night, across three time slots. We would like to encourage parents and carers of players to take the opportunity of joining up to play with their friends and family (players do not need to be a registered Knox player to join us). If you wish to play with a friend or family member, you can nominate them when you register on line. The committee will ensure that teams are balanced in terms of age, skill, gender and experience.
To ensure players of lesser skill are included in the game play and not intimidated, and to protect the umpires, there are a few modified rules including, but not limited to:
- No raised balls.
- No Hitting (only pushing allowed).
- No arguing with the umpires.
- Aggressive or anti-social behavior will not be tolerated.
- There is no scoring recorded in these games as the emphasis is on social hockey.
Higher skilled players (Seniors, Masters, Coaches) are expected to mentor and help those who are not as skilled, including juniors and new players. The club also expects senior players to support and mentor the umpires. As each team will be of mixed age and gender, aggressive play will not be tolerated and the players involved may be asked to leave the ground during play. The games are played across the ground, which is divided into four smaller pitches.
The cost of the competition will be $160.00 per person, which includes the cost of your uniform and game fees for the 10 rounds.
We hope that the word has already gone out about our friendly games, and that you want to sign up to play this summer. There is a lot of laughter involved, old people get special aids, and newbies are made welcome. We would like to encourage new or inexperienced players to join in the club fun and register.
There is an expectation that all registered players will help with setting up prior to the evening and pulling down the playing areas at completion of the night. There is also an expectation of helping with umpiring other teams games when required.
Players who have played in HV winter competitions are covered by insurance. However this will expire on 31st December. You will need to register for the 2019 season to be covered for the second half of the competition unless otherwise advised by Hockey Victoria.
All New players and previously unregistered players will need to register with Hockey Victoria under their summer hockey registration for 2018 to be covered by the Player Insurance. See below for more information regarding insurance.

Pre-Christmas rounds
(6 Nights) All Players who are currently registered with Hockey Victoria with any club (2018 winter season) are already covered for this period
All new hockey players will need to register with Hockey Victoria under their summer hockey registration for this period at a cost of $25 per adult $20 youth and $15per Child under 18. The HV summer registrations open on the 28th September 2018
Post-New Year rounds
(4 Nights) Hockey Victoria registrations for 2019 will open early February. All players will need to register with Hockey Victoria to be covered by insurance.
This will cover you for the 2019 Winter season as well. You can register online at: http://membership.hockeyvictoria.org.au/
So be quick as there are only 120 places available. When all places are filled we will close registrations and all further registration inquiries will be added to a wait listed dependent on availability.
